The expansion of the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), passed this winter by Congress and signed by President Obama, officially went into effect on April 1. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has launched a website with details:

If your kids do not have health insurance, they are likely to be eligible, even if you are working and even if you have applied in the past and been turned down.
The page includes links to state CHIP programs and highlights a toll-free number -- 1-877-KIDS-NOW -- that can be called to determine whether a child is eligible.
